Bring BRAKE to your school
Young people need more than road rules before they begin driving independently.
BRAKE helps students build the judgement, risk awareness and practical strategies they need to make safer decisions as passengers, riders and future drivers.
Available to secondary schools across Australia, BRAKE is delivered by your school’s own teachers through six ready to use classroom modules that fit within existing HPE, wellbeing or pastoral learning.

What students say BRAKE changed
Throughout the BRAKE Program, students complete nearly 70 quiz and reflection questions. These allow students to apply the knowledge, strategies and planning tools introduced across the modules to realistic situations they may face as passengers, riders and future drivers.
Their responses show how their thinking develops around risk, pressure, responsibility and decision making. The comments below are students’ own descriptions of what BRAKE changed in their thinking and how they would use what they learned.
“Safe driving is not just about the rules, it’s about managing distractions, emotions and pressure before they influence a decision. I will use BRAKE tools by noticing if I am not focused.” – Year 10 student
“The most important thing BRAKE has taught me is to regulate my body and how it is feeling and how it affects my driving, and the changes I can make to help be more aware and safe on the roads.” – Year 10 student
“BRAKE has shown me that driving isn’t just about me on the road, it’s about everyone and everything around me that can affect my safety.” – Year 10 student
“I thought road safety education was about scaring kids into making the right choice and after this lesson, BRAKE has taught me that driving doesn’t have to be scary if you make educated and calm choices and keep a positive mindset.” – Year 10 student

A teacher’s perspective
The student experience
Designed to work within schools
BRAKE fits the way schools already operate. There are no external presenters, excursions or offsite activities required.
Delivered by your school's own teachers
Six ready to use classroom modules, generally delivered once a week
Approximately 45 to 60 minutes per module
Slides, teacher notes, videos, activities and assessments provided
Student quizzes and surveys are administered, marked and recorded automatically
Mapped to seven areas of the Australian Curriculum: Health and Physical Education
Self paced online teacher accreditation completed before delivery
The BRAKE Operating System manages the program from one place. This means teachers can focus on classroom delivery and discussion rather than creating resources, marking assessments or compiling results.
Because the program is delivered by school staff through an online platform, BRAKE can be implemented consistently in metropolitan, regional and remote schools across Australia.
Available BRAKE programs
BRAKE offers structured road safety programs for different student ages and travel contexts. Schools can select the program that best suits their students and local road environment.
BRAKE Program
For students aged 14 to 16.

The core BRAKE program helps students build safer attitudes and habits around road use by exploring how decisions, attention, emotion and peer influence affect risk before they begin driving.
Taught over multiple classroom lessons, the program gives students repeated opportunities to reflect, practise thinking skills and normalise safer choices as drivers and passengers.
E-Mobility Program
For students aged 11 to 15.

Supports students to build safer attitudes and everyday habits when using e-scooters and e-bikes by exploring how speed, attention, shared spaces and peer influence affect risk.
Taught through structured classroom lessons, students practise recognising risk early and making respectful choices around pedestrians, other riders and vehicles.
Rural and Remote
For students aged 14 to 16.

Helps students develop safer attitudes and habits for higher-risk road environments by examining how speed, distance, fatigue, visibility and changing conditions affect decision making.
Delivered through classroom discussion and reflection, the module prepares students for travel beyond local streets, including highways, regional roads and unfamiliar environments.
